In commemoration of National Children’s Day, John Keells Foundation in partnership with Elephant House and Flavors by Cinnamon organized an All-Island Art Competition from the 17th to the 23rd of September. Aimed at building awareness on child protection amidst the many social challenges faced by children today, this public campaign was organized under John Keell’s Foundation’s project WAVE (Working Against Violence through Education) – a long term initiative seeking to combat child abuse and gender-based violence through education and awareness creation.
The theme for children from 7 – 9 years of age was ‘If I am a MUM/ DAD/ GURDIAN/ TEACHER/ POLICE OFFICER, what I will do to protect children like me’ and the theme for children from 10 -12 years of age was ‘Pros and Cons of children living in an online world’.
The competition received an overwhelming response with 518 entries pouring in from all nine provinces. Three winners were selected from each age group by judges from the Cora Abraham Art School.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners as well as ten merit awardees of each group will be awarded valuable book vouchers from John Keells Foundation and delightful gift hampers courtesy of Elephant House and Flavors by cinnamon amounting to a composite value of Rs. 11,000/-, 9,000/- and 8,000/- respectively while all the winners and merit awardees will also receive certificates.
John Keells Foundation congratulates the winners and commends all child participants for their creative interpretations of the assigned themes on child protection.
