JKF together with ChildFund Sri Lanka (CF), Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and with the University of the Visual and Performing Arts (UVPA) conducted the first aesthetic workshop of a workshop series to enhance the Social Emotional Learning of the youth in Colombo 02.
The workshop series includes lessons in theatre, music, drawing and dancing that will help enhance the skills of the youth in Colombo 02.
The first workshop was held at De Mel Park Child & Youth Friendly Centre (CFC), a safe and protective space established in the community to support children’s education, learning & and skill development.
The CFC is equipped with a Learning unit, Skill development unit, Computer unit and Indoor & Outdoor activities. These activities are conducted as a collaborative effort by John Keells Foundation (JKF) ChildFund Sri Lanka (CF), Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and with the University of the Visual and Performing Arts (UVPA)to enhance the skills and the level of education of children in Colombo 2.
The first activity, a painting workshop was successfully conducted on Saturday 18th December 2021 with the participation of Prof. Saumya Liyanage (senior lecturer and currently the Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies UVPA) , Pradeep Chandrasiri (Visual artist/Designer/Lecturer) ,Pradeep Thalawaththa ( Visual artist/Lecturer)and representatives of JKF and CF. 23 youth between age 15-24 from Colombo 02, including Hunupitiya, and Wekanda GN divisions successfully benefited from the programme.
